A weekly Holiday market of vendors and hawkers, after the eviction from footpath in the drive against encroachment, are being organized regularly on five city road stretches on every Friday.
Through the holiday market, the Dhaka city corporation (DCC) is allowing vendors and hawkers on one of the lanes of five city roads to sell their goods between 8am and 5pm every Friday.
The decision was made to rehabilitate vendors and hawkers, evicted from the footpaths during the drive against encroachment on government land and occupation of public places.
The five concerned road stretches begin from the Plassey crossing to the filling station at Nilkhet, from Pirjangi Majar to the T&T School and College, Mirpur zoo road, Manik Mia Avenue and from Matsya Bhaban to the Shegun Baghicha crossing.
The vendors and hawkers are selling items like bed sheets, bed covers, covers for television sets and mobile handsets, posters, maps, household utensils, second hand mobile and television accessories, clothes like trousers, shirts, salwar kameez and other items which were found easily on the roads even a month back.
