The Bangladesh Shilkapala Academy and the Dhaka Theatre will initiate a six day-long program, from August 18, marking the 59th birth anniversary of Selim Al Deen, paying a tribute to the prolific playwright.The festival will include drama shows, screening of documentaries, display of mementos and installation arts and seminars.
The Dhaka Theatre would honour six playwrights from India and Bangladesh during the festival for their contributions to theatre.
Dhaka Theatre and Swapnasandhani, a theatre group from Kolkata, will stage five plays –– Jaibati Kanyar Man, Prachya, Nimajjan, Hargaj and Binodini –– from August 19. Documentary screening on Selim will begin on August 18 with two shows every afternoon. A two-day seminar on the works of Selim will begin on August 22. Professor Arun Sen, Mafidul Haque, Lutfar Rahman and Kazi Sayeed Hossain will present four key-note papers in the seminar. The festival will end on August 23. The primary and mass education and cultural affairs adviser, Rasheda K Chowdhury, is expected to inaugurate the event at the National Theatre Hall as chief guest at 7pm.
